Bruce Kemp

Bruce Kemp from Production Plus is our go-to Technical Director. Having worked in the industry since 1992, Bruce has worked with a variety of venues, locations and suppliers making him a valuable asset to the team.

We’ve worked with Bruce for many years now, his attention to detail and quality of work is second to none.

We thought it was about time you go to know Bruce, to do so, we’ve asked him a couple of quick questions on your behalf.

The great thing about my job is…

It’s always different and exciting…Even after 27 years I still love that feeling of when a show goes live, counting down to that opening cue.

My role within Nectar is…

I’m their go-to Technical Director. I love seeing the job come together with hundreds of road cases one minute and a crisp event the next, with big imagery, loud sound, heaps of coloured moving lights and happy clients.

My greatest challenge in this role is…

To try and come up with a visual concept and design that make will the audience think this is different. Different to the plain, old and rather boring conference they went to last time.

My highlight for 2016 is…

The fact that I’m still here doing events and still wanting to do them in the future…It has to end one day though, doesn’t it?

My favourite city for MICE events is…

Anywhere…I don’t mind.

My favourite venue (in Brisbane) is…

Lightspace in the Valley. It’s a quirky and funky space with awesome food.

I try to relax by…

Racing one tenth scale off road remote control cars.. These are not toys, but proper race cars people!!!

I’ve always wanted to travel to…

Europe with my wife.

I am scared to death of…

Snakes. Don’t put Georgie or I on a gig anywhere near the things!

I can’t live without…

Dutch Licorice.

I really wish I had…

A bigger boat.

If I could invite 4 people to a dinner party, they’d be…

A Chef, a Waiter, a Sommelier and a Cigar Steward.

For anyone starting out in the industry, what is the 1 piece of advice you would give them…

Put as much effort into Pre-Production as you can. That way your job should be easy when you get onsite. You will be able to manage any client created problems when they arise without having to worry about things you should have done weeks ago!
