Held on 24–25 June 2025 at Rydges Melbourne, the 5th Maritime Decarbonisation Summit brought together leaders from across the maritime sector to explore immediate and future pathways towards a low carbon future.

While the industry continues to await definitive regulatory guidance from the IMO and the release of national action plans, the summit highlighted how decarbonisation efforts are advancing regardless—driven by collaboration, innovation, and industry-led initiatives.

Discussions acknowledged that future fuels like methanol, ammonia and hydrogen will be critical to long-term sectoral change. However, the current lack of widespread supply and uncertain demand has led many operators to focus on implementing available low emissions solutions now, rather than waiting for future technologies to scale.

The summit provided a valuable platform for shared learning, partnership development, and practical discussions as Australia’s maritime sector works collectively towards decarbonisation.
